Poor Nancy

Here are six words I never thought I’d write: I feel sorry for Nancy Pelosi.

I do.

She’s been accused of a vile thing - racism - and the Speaker of the House is learning that those odious words smart.

As you may already know, the veiled accusation came from Washington’s newest star, leftist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who’s at war with old guard Democrats.

She accused Pelosi of picking on her:

“When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez told The Washington Post. “But the persistent singling out . . . it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful . . . the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.”

Yep, there it is. Pelosi is singling out women of color for criticism. The very definition of a racist.

Even though AOC - as she likes to call herself - walked it back later, saying she didn’t think Pelosi was a racist, we know exactly what she meant.

Pelosi had been quoted earlier in the week expressing exasperation over the “squad” of four congresswomen who are close to being in open rebellion against the Democratic Party. AOC, of course, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts.

They voted against the bipartisan border bill.

“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” Pelosi sniffed of the quartet. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”

This is the problem every political party leader faces: How to rein in the extremists so they won’t go rogue. Old line Republicans wrestled with the Tea Party. Now the Democrats have to deal with the Marxists.

It must be especially annoying to Pelosi because the media is slobbering all over AOC.

You might think that having been labeled a racist, Pelosi would be careful before tossing out similar accusations.

You would be wrong.

No sooner had AOC attacked Pelosi than the speaker said attempts by the administration to put a citizenship question back on the census was driven by those who want to “make American white again.”

Wait.

Sorry for Nancy?

I take that back.
