I’d almost forgotten how much fun presidential nomination races were.

In 2016, Republican candidates glibly promised to repeal and replace Obamacare, end illegal immigration, make Mexico pay for the border wall and cut taxes. Oh, and there were the dopey nicknames:  It was the year of Lyin’ Ted, Low-Energy Jeb, Little Marco and, of course, Crooked Hillary.

Now it’s the Democrats’ turn onstage and they’re putting on their own wacky show: Some are telling us to stop driving gas cars, sipping with plastic straws and eating red meat to save the planet from climate change. Yet next thing you know they’re at the annual Iowa Steak Fry flipping juicy chunks of beef over open, smoky fires.

To hell with the environment, the caucuses are coming!

Best of all, we have frontrunner Joe Biden who likes to brag that he once tangled with the notorious Delaware gangbanger, Corn Pop, who’s now promising to revamp the American prison system.

During the last debate Biden actually said that non-violent criminals shouldn’t be in prison.

Chew on that for a minute:

“The fact of the matter is that what's happened is that we're in a situation now where there are so many people who are in jail and shouldn't be in jail. The whole means by which this should change is to — the model has to change,” Biden said.

 “Nobody should be in jail for a nonviolent crime.”

Nobody, Joe? Not even violent thugs like the late Al Capone whom the feds finally nabbed on charges of federal tax evasion? Not even Anthony Weiner who was just released after serving 21 months for sending lewd photos of his private parts to a minor?

No doubt news of Joe Biden’s Free-All-White-Collar-Criminals plan was cheered by incarcerated swindlers, fraudsters and perverts from coast to coast.

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that a delighted Bernie Madoff sent a smuggled campaign contribution to Biden. Poor Madoff was sentenced to 150 years for fraud and embezzlement for stealing the life savings of trusting investors. Sure, he ruined lives. Left retirees penniless. But he did it nonviolently. Why should he be behind bars? It’s not fair.

Same goes for Bernard Ebbers, former CEO of WorldCom, who was convicted of defrauding investors. No doubt he’s also ready to campaign for Biden from his federal cell, where he’s stuck until 2028.

Don’t forget Donald Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, who’s serving a three-year sentence in a federal pen for tax evasion. He may be advising Biden for all we know.

Of course if any of these gents begin to identify as female, Biden’s Keep-Criminals-Happy proposal would automatically move them to women's prisons. No questions asked.

Over the weekend, at an LGBTQ forum, Biden declared that inmates should be housed in facilities according to the gender with which they identify.

“In prison, the determination should be that your sexual identity is defined by what you say it is, not what in fact the prison says it is,” Biden said.

Will someone please remind Joe that we’re talking about criminals? While law-abiding trans people deserve the same respect as everyone else and are entitled to live their lives as they see fit, prisoners have to fit into a system designed to keep inmates from killing and attacking each other.

Many prisons are hellholes. We need to make them safer, not more dangerous.

The prison system should house transgender men separately from the rest of the male population, for their own safety. But anyone who thinks male criminals might not fraudulently identify as female to gain entrance to a women’s facility - and to have access to potential victims - is hopelessly naive.

Current federal policy says that assignments for transgender inmates are decided on "a case-by-case basis."

Makes perfect sense. Rapists and violent sex offenders need not apply.

Biden went far beyond the federal regs last weekend, essentially saying that convicts should get to pick their own prisons.

What could possibly go wrong?

I’ll tell you: Last year in woke Britain, a rapist and pedophile named Stephen Wood began to transition to female after she was incarcerated in a men-only prison. With a new name - Karen White -  this predator was moved to a women’s facility where she set about assaulting female prisoners.

Prison authorities in Britain have apologized for this bizarre lapse in judgment and for putting female inmates at risk.

We don’t have coed jails for a reason. Someone tell Pandering Joe.
