I take it back. I was wrong. Last week I said Joe Biden was a buffoon. He isn’t.

He’s insane.

Biden must be out of his mind to think that normal Americans will go along with a payout of ANY amount to illegal immigrants for “injuries’ they suffered when they were separated from their families at the border.

The entire idea is an abomination.

We don’t reward lawless behavior with money. Only an insane person would consider such a thing.

When the president was asked about a news leak that the Department of Justice was working out a legal settlement to pay disgruntled illegals as much as $450,000 per person for pain and suffering caused by the government when immigrants are separated from family members the president seemed befuddled and denied the story was true.

“$450,000 per person? Is that what you’re saying?” Biden sputtered when Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked about the payments. “That’s not going to happen.”

One day later, Biden’s mouthpiece, Karine Jean-Pierre, backpedaled.

“The president is perfectly comfortable with the Department of Justice settling with the individuals and families who are currently in litigation with the U.S. government,” she said.

Sigh.

Either Biden was lying to Doocy, or he is uninformed about the shenanigans of his own justice department.

On Saturday Biden doubled down, insisting that paying off lawbreakers because they were separated  from their kids due to Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy was the right thing to do.

"If in fact, because of the outrageous behavior of the last administration, you coming across the border, whether it was legal or illegal, and you lost your child, you lost your child! ... you deserve some kind of compensation no matter what the circumstance. What that will be, I have no idea. I have no idea.”

Insane.

You know what’s really outrageous? Hundreds of thousands of immigrants swarming across the border due to Biden’s ineptitude and failure to enforce American immigration laws.

The right thing to do is to apply to enter the country legally. That way you get to bring your children without any fear of separation.

Oh and a good rule of thumb is, don’t bring the kids along when you’re committing crimes.

Surely even Biden is aware of the rampant human trafficking on the border. Children should not be housed in custody with adults as there is no way to know if the kid is even related to the person that brought them to the U.S.

Sen. John Thune of South Dakota blew up this weekend over Biden’s cockamamie plan:

“The administration is considering paying people who are here illegally and who are suing this country $450,00 per person …if you add that up, that could get up over one million dollars real fast to people who are here in this country illegally. That, if you think about it, is 6 1/2 times the average income in this country, it is 4 1/2 times what is paid to the families of soldiers who were lost in combat, it is more than most of the families in 9-11 received from the government.

“This is an insult to the hard working taxpayers in this country….There isn’t a day around here that a horrible idea doesn’t come out and we’ve been dealing with this on a daily basis for the past several weeks. But this is an idea that has got to be done away with. The American people are not going to tolerate, the people who work hard in this country to take care of their families, having their government give $450,000 per person to people who come here illegally. This needs to be stopped in its tracks."

No kidding. But simply lowering the Border Crossing Bonus to $400,000 or $100,000 or even $1,000 won’t fix this.

Is Biden unaware that the government routinely separates families? For instance, every person in jail or prison is separated from his or her family.

They don’t get a check for their inconvenience. That’s part of the price of being a lawbreaker.

Most members of the military are separated for a time from their families.

That’s part of the job.

If the DOJ isn’t stopped, people who crossed the border illegally will get fat checks that would be a life-changing sum for most ordinary law-abiding Americans struggling to pay their bills. And news of the free money will encourage others to head north, making the Biden border crisis even worse.

Beyond the immorality of rewarding lawbreakers, this is a giant money-laundering operation. The immigrants are being represented by the ACLU - yep, the same civil rights group that sucked its thumb while American civil liberties were stomped by tyrannical governors - which means those leftie lawyers will get paid when the settlement checks are written.

And what will they do with that loot? Donate it to Democrats, of course.

Does a bank robber get to sue the bank if he slips and falls in the lobby? Of course not. Is he showered with cash because he was separated from his kids as he awaited trial in a cell?

That would be absurd.

Neither should illegals get a bonanza because they dragged their kids with them as they snuck into the country.

No cash prizes for people in the country illegally.

The only thing they should get is a bus ticket home.
