Covid Was Cooked Up In A Lab? Who Knew? (Many Of Us).

Gosh.

Seems like just two years ago even suggesting that maybe - just maybe - the Covid virus was cooked up in a Wuhan virology lab and leaked to the world would get you cancelled.

Twitter censored anyone who dared suggest that the pandemic started anywhere other than a wet market, or with a pangolin or a big bowl of bat soup. Other social media outlets also banned lab-leak “conspiracy” theories or attached warnings to them.

Just wondering aloud if the virus was some kind of superbug cooked up by evil scientists in a Chinese lab - perhaps even funded by American taxpayers - was considered both racist and wacky.

About that.

Over the weekend The Wall Street Journal reported that an investigation completed by the energy department has concluded with “moderate certainty” that the virus escaped from a lab.

The headline says it all: Lab Leak Most Likely Origin of Covid-19 Pandemic, Energy Department Now Says

U.S. agency’s revised assessment is based on new intelligence

The new report highlights how different parts of the intelligence community have arrived at disparate judgments about the pandemic’s origin. The Energy Department now joins the Federal Bureau of Investigation in saying the virus likely spread via a mishap at a Chinese laboratory. ..

The FBI previously came to the conclusion that the pandemic was likely the result of a lab leak in 2021 with “moderate confidence” and still holds to this view.

Told ya.

Yep, seems like those of us who questioned the government lines and lies about covid and who “weren’t taking the pandemic seriously enough” were right.

And the Forever Covid crowd was wrong.

Wrong about almost everything. Wrong about masks, wrong about lockdowns, wrong about social distancing, wrong to close schools, wrong about the effectiveness of vaccines. And probably wrong about the government-approved “natural origins” explanation of where the virus was born.

In fact, in February of 2020 Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas postulated that the virus originated in the Wuhan lab. He was attacked as a nut job.

“Being proven right doesn’t matter. What matters is holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable so this doesn’t happen again,” Cotton tweeted Monday.

Frankly, the most frightening aspect of the covid pandemic was watching the American media and social media organizations join hands with government in an attempt to quash any theories about the virus or potential treatments that lacked the CDC stamp of approval.

The second most frightening aspect was the willingness of Americans to surrender their critical thinking skills to the covidians.

Early in 2020 this former English major stumbled on this 2017 article in Nature.com about the Wuhan Virology Institute. Here’s the lede:

A laboratory in Wuhan is on the cusp of being cleared to work with the world’s most dangerous pathogens. The move is part of a plan to build between five and seven biosafety level-4 (BSL-4) labs across the Chinese mainland by 2025, and has generated much excitement, as well as some concerns.

Some scientists outside China worry about pathogens escaping, and the addition of a biological dimension to geopolitical tensions between China and other nations. But Chinese microbiologists are celebrating their entrance to the elite cadre empowered to wrestle with the world’s greatest biological threats.

“It will offer more opportunities for Chinese researchers, and our contribution on the BSL‑4-level pathogens will benefit the world,” says George Gao, director of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Key Laboratory of Pathogenic Microbiology and Immunology in Beijing.

Connecting the dots was pretty easy after that.

Of course, questions remain. For instance, was gain-of-function research going on in the Wuhan lab and were American taxpayers underwriting it?

We have a right to know.

It’s been three years. Time for some honest answers. For a change.
