Baltimore Kids Are Rude
I learned a few things yesterday.
I learned that schools no longer drill students on good behavior before kids leave for field trips. I learned that teachers don’t give their charges a stern speech about how when they’re out in a group they represent their schools.
And I learned that some Baltimore parents don’t teach their spawn much of anything. Except disrespect and bad manners.
How else to explain the obnoxious behavior of middle and high school students in the Charm City Tuesday when First Lady Melania Trump came to a summit on opioid addiction?
They booed and heckled the first lady as she made polite, uplifting first ladylike remarks.
She was the guest of the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation and delivered a short speech about the dangers of opioids before wishing the kids a Happy Thanksgiving. Boilerplate stuff. The sort of goodwill appearance first ladies have always made to lend their support to various charities and causes.
Afterwards, when asked about the brats, Melania said simply, “We live in a democracy and everyone is entitled to their opinion. But the fact is we have a serious crisis in our country and I remain committed to educating children on the dangers and deadly consequences of drug abuse.”
Yes, I know, she’s Eva Braun to Donald Trump’s Hitler. She doesn’t deserve respect. These kids are polite young ladies and gentlemen most of the time, they simply lost their minds when they saw this evil woman on the stage.
As my dad would say: Baloney.
These kids were rude and disrespectful. Period. If they’d do this to Melania, they’d do it to anyone they don’t like.
They were at the B’More Youth summit on Opioid Awareness to learn about the dangers of drug use and the First Lady of the United States took the time to address them. Although a few kids were applauding it was clear from the clips that they were outnumbered.
Even so, The Washington Post reported that some In the audience were grudgingly impressed with her poise and that the booing subsided somewhat when the kids heard what she was saying.
Bridget Smith, who goes by “Mamma B” and runs the Angela Davis Leadership Academy, found herself impressed. “I didn’t have mixed emotions about her being here because, you know, I don’t judge her based on him. But I never knew about the work she did with opioid abuse, and I think it’s good.”
“It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be,” said Danielle Whitmore, a parole and probation worker. “She kept going, and she kept a straight face, and she kept talking. She didn’t stop one time. It was a brave act, very brave.”
“She came in front of the shooting gallery and stuck her head out. I like that,” said the event’s emcee, Levardis “Lil Black” McLaughlin. “Regardless of whether you like her politics or policy, she came for the cause. And that’s what she addressed. She did what she was supposed to do, and I respect it.”
This woman grew up in Slovenia, came to America and was a successful model before marrying her husband. She speaks five languages.
Melania is poised and gracious and represents America well here and abroad, like other first ladies. She’s easily as stylish as Jackie Kennedy and as fluent in languages as that beloved lady. Yet in the past month or two, unhinged Trump haters have started booing her in public.
Not even Pat Nixon was treated this poorly.
Earlier this month medical professionals - supposed adults - lined up outside a Boston hospital to make fools of themselves by screaming at Melania as she arrived to learn about a program that cuddles babies born addicted to drugs.
Yep, these Trump-hating imbeciles were so deranged that their tantrums overshadowed the good publicity this program should have garnered.
Embarrassing.
In both instances the First Lady was unruffled. It was the hecklers who embarrassed themselves.
