Stop The Presses: Vince Vaughn Talked to Donald Trump
During a commercial break in Monday night’s College Football National Playoff championship game I checked Twitter to see what fans with more football knowledge than I were saying about the game.
I was stunned to see that “Vince Vaughn” was trending.
If you were one of the almost 26 million viewers watching the game on ESPN you may have seen the “Wedding Crashers” star sit briefly beside Melania and Donald Trump to engage in what appeared to be casual chitchat.
It ended with the two men warmly shaking hands and Vaughn leaving the box.
I hadn’t thought much of it, other than wondering if Vaughn was an LSU or Clemson fan.
Then again, I’m not consumed with contempt for the president.
The innocent encounter left many seething on social media. Some said the lanky actor made them physically ill. Others threatened to boycott Vaughn’s movies.
Yep, the furious cancel culture quickly sprang into action. The way they see it, if Vince Vaughn isn’t punished for this transgression other stars might feel free to canoodle with the president.
Here’s a sample of some of the comments. Ones that didn’t use vulgarities or mock the First Lady’s mastery of English.
Welp…that tells me all I need to know about Vince Vaughn (sick face)
All of you saying calm down, Vince is shaking the hand of the man who is hell bent on destroying not just our democracy, but our survival in the world community, for his personal benefit. Wake up!
Shame to see Vince Vaughn so casually sit with a known traitor, terrorist and rapist with a smile on his face…
So Vince Vaughn is cordial to a man who locks kids in cages. What’s the big deal?
In short it was a seething mess on social media. Right in the middle of one of the best college championship games ever played.
I couldn’t wait to get back to the gridiron where the opposing players were gentler with each other than many folks were to Vaughn on social media.
Yes, I know, Trump is Hitler, etc. No excuse. This seems to happen any time a celebrity dares make an overture to a conservative.
Remember how the outrage mob went after Ellen Degeneres back in October when she was seen smiling and chatting with former President George W. Bush? The comic actually recorded a bit to diffuse the situation.
This hate-fueled resistance has gone too far. You don’t like the president? Fine. See you at the polls in November. Oh, and if you find yourself at a sporting event with POTUS between now and then, stay on your own side of the stadium.
Whatever you do, stop attacking the few civil people left in America. It’s not normal.
Vince Vaughn is known as an actor who thinks for himself. He’s considered something of a libertarian, is vocal about his pro-Second Amendment stance and worked for Ron Paul when the Texas Congressman was running for president.
Oh, he also dared to greet the president at one of the premier athletic events of the year.
If you have a problem with that, seek help.
