Let Them Eat Ice Cream
Help me out here. I’m searching for a word and I can’t find the perfect one.
Tone-deaf?
Callous?
Tasteless?
Indifferent?
Unsympathetic?
Spoiled?
I know. How about clueless?
Yes, let’s go with that for now. Nancy Pelosi’s cringe-inducing attempt to appear casual and relatable during a pandemic that has killed thousands, caused more than 22 million Americans to lose their jobs and overwhelmed food banks, showed how damned clueless she is.
Appearing Tuesday night on “The Late, Late Show with James Corden,” the multi-millionaire speaker of the house took part in a segment called “Late, Late Show and Tell.”
This modern-day Marie Antoinette posed in her kitchen in front of what appear to be side-by-side Sub-Zeroes (that’s about $25,000 worth of refrigeration) in full makeup with an orange sweater knotted jauntily across her shoulders as if she were headed out for a tennis match.
Asked about what she’s been enjoying during her isolation the Ice Queen slid open a freezer door to reveal at least a dozen - probably more - pints of Jeni’s ice cream.
“This is something you can get through the mail,” she gushed.
Yes, you can.
If you don’t mind paying $13 a pint. Oh, and Jeni’s has a four-pint minimum and lards on a $13 shipping charge and taxes of $1.20. I checked.
That comes to $66.20 for four pints of ice cream delivered to your door.
No, I didn’t order any. Shoot, until yesterday I’d never heard of Jeni’s.
Imagine filming your freezer stuffed with this over-priced extravagance at a time when people are out of work and out of money.
What is wrong with this woman?
I don’t know who’s advising this out-of-touch octogenarian, but that knothead should be fired. In fact, that person should have been sacked two years ago after Pelosi sneered at the $1,000 bonuses some workers were getting as a result of the federal tax cuts as “crumbs.”
It’s nice that Queen Nancy is so prosperous that a thousand bucks is chump change to her. Shoot, the woman may be worth as much as $160 million, according to Politifact.
Still, flaunting your ostentatious Pacific Heights lifestyle at a time when ordinary folks are terrified about the future and really struggling - through no fault of their own - to pay rent and mortgages and feed their kids is beyond clueless.
It’s heartless.
