No Surprise. It’s Kamala Harris.

No Surprise. It’s Kamala Harris.

Yesterday’s announcement that Kamala Harris would be Joe Biden’s running mate was, well, anti-climactic.

Was anyone surprised?

After all, in mid-March - before he’d even locked up the nomination - Biden promised to pick a vice president with ovaries.

That narrowed the field of potential vice presidential possibilities by half.

Harris was the favorite of the available females from the start, despite the fact that she knee-capped Biden in one of the Democratic debates and otherwise failed to excite primary voters anywhere.

In a March 23 New York Times piece, “Behind Joe Biden’s Thinking On A Female Running Mate,”  Katie Glueck predicted it would be the California senator who would win the veepstakes.

“The most obvious pick would be Senator Kamala Harris of California, who ran against Mr. Biden for the 2020 nomination. The day after she dropped out of the race, Mr. Biden said: “She can be the president one day herself. She can be the vice president.” A number of major donors who previously supported Ms. Harris went on to embrace Mr. Biden, and Ms. Harris rallied with him on the eve of the Michigan primary. He dealt a major blow to Mr. Sanders in that contest the next day.

But she also endorsed him after her home state of California voted, and there are still bruised feelings among some in the Biden camp over her lacerating remarks about his views on busing during a debate-stage clash. At the fund-raiser this month, Dr. Biden called that exchange a “punch to the gut.”

Punch to the gut or not, Biden was fishing in a small pond when he promised to run with a woman. By May, when Biden stupidly blurted “'If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” it seemed he desperately needed a black running mate to save his sorry derriere.

And the pool of candidates shrank even more.

Finally, after his blockheaded statement last week implied that all African Americans think alike, it was clear Biden had to have to select a black woman to make amends for his racist bloviations.

So he chose the woman who has said that illegal aliens should be entitled to free healthcare, who favors reparations for slavery, who wants public schools to serve as daycare centers by being open 10 hours a day (when a pandemic isn’t raging) and who, when asked if convicted felons such as the Boston Marathon bomber should be able to vote from prison actually replied, “I think we should have that conversation

Sheesh. I wonder if she’ll feel this way if George Floyd’s killer is found guilty?

Early on, Biden - or more likely his advisors - decided to pander to special interest groups instead of selecting the one Democrat who might have given Biden a boost where he needs it most: Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio. That’s a state Biden must take if he wants to move from his basement in Delaware to the basement of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Sen. Brown had smarts, experience and geography, but lacked the required genitalia.
