Biden’s Memorably Forgettable SOTU
It’s tempting to dismiss Joe Biden’s State of the Union address as “forgettable."
But that wouldn’t be accurate.
In fact, the 2022 SOTU will be memorable for the massive amount of gaslighting, deceptions and banalities contained in it.
The speech will also be remembered for the slightly insane behavior of 81-year-old Nancy Pelosi, sitting over Biden’s left shoulder - hopefully for the last time - as Speaker of the House.
It wasn’t her frozen smile or that sucking thing she does with her mouth that lit up social media on Tuesday.
It was her weird cheering for toxic smoke from burn pits.
Who’s that happy over fumes?
Speaking of fumes, Biden’s speech was an object lesson in gaslighting. It was an attempt to tell Americans that what they are experiencing and seeing is merely an illusion. Soaring cost of living? That’s the fault of corporate greed. Inflation? He’s going to fix it with more spending. Those Trump tax cuts ordinary Americans enjoyed? They were just for the rich.
The man who on Monday crossed the South Lawn of the White House solo, wearing a mask, entered a House chamber packed with geriatrics on Tuesday without one. After the speech, the president was seen hugging, kissing and head butting various frail members of Congress.
If there was any doubt that the militant masking in blue areas has been nothing but pandemic theater, Tuesday night was confirmation.
It’s worth noting that after Washington pols canoodled barefaced Tuesday evening, the children of Washington D.C. headed to school the next morning, fully masked indoors and out.
The party of science, folks!
On Wednesday the corporate media ignored Biden’s garbled syntax and falsehoods to focus instead on two GOP Congresswomen: Marjorie Taylor Green and Lauren Boebert, who heckled the president during his tedious speech.
They were rude. They were classless. They were vulgar.
But were they really ruder than Pelosi who made a show of tearing up President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Speech two years ago? Perhaps Pelosi set the table for such uncivil behavior. Just a thought.
Here’s a sampling of Biden’s SOTU whoppers:
He claimed that “the American Rescue Plan worked.” Sure it worked, causing the worst inflation in more than 40 years.
Biden believes he created a record number of jobs. Actually, people going back to work after being forced out by Covid lockdowns is not the same as job creation.
Biden claimed that many women left the job market during Covid because they couldn’t find affordable child care. No, they didn’t, Joe. They left the job market because Democratic governors, mayors, teachers unions and leftie school boards closed schools and kept them closed.
What were mothers supposed to do?
Biden promised to lower the cost of insulin on Tuesday, without mentioning that his administration scrapped a Trump Department of Health and Human Services rule that would have frozen the price of both insulin and epi pens.
The president launched a rant about the need to buy products that are made in America. This, from the guy who just spent $1.2 billion on Chinese Covid testing kits.
Predictably, Biden invoked the usual topics intended to pull on America’s heartstrings: Scranton, his deceased son and his community college teaching wife.
Then he ended the speech with a “Go get him!”
Who, Joe?
Never mind. Ask the speechwriter. Biden just reads what’s on the teleprompter.
