Mandates Falling Faster Than Biden’s Poll Numbers
One thing about leftists, they never disappoint.
No sooner had a federal judge on Monday overturned the CDC mask mandate on public transportation - ruling that the agency had exceeded its authority - then left-wing forever-maskers launched their attacks.
Naturally, they didn’t savage the ruling. Or the judge’s interpretation of the law.
They went after the judge’s age and sex. And who appointed her.
You see, U.S. District Court Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle is a 35-year-old female. She was appointed to the federal bench by Donald Trump.
Apparently, that rendered her decision frivolous.
These leftists actually believe a 78-year-old man exhibiting signs of dementia is smarter than a 35-year-old woman.
The mask mandate on public transit - especially airliners with their sophisticated air filtration systems - has been worthless since the start. Few cases of Covid have ever been traced to air travel and the idiotic rule that required masks on 2-year-old faces has made flying with toddlers a gothic experience for many young families.
Beyond that, incidents of unruly passengers have soared since the mandates were instituted, fueled in part by flight attendants nagging passengers to raise and lower their masks between bites of food.
Has there ever been a more fruitless, foolish exercise?
The Biden administration, in thrall to Anthony Fauci and others in public health, extended the mask mandate repeatedly. The mandate was set to expire yesterday but the CDC stretched it for 15 more days to give the agency time to find a new reason to renew it.
Judge Mizelle put an end to the foolishness.
“Our system does not permit agencies to act unlawfully even in pursuit of desirable ends," wrote Mizelle.
Almost immediately the Biden administration seemed to buckle, issuing this statement:
The quick response of the Biden administration may indicate a sense of relief. The drumbeat to end the unpopular mandates was growing louder, yet Fauci and others were stubbornly insisting that masks were still needed. This ruling allows masks to come off without without Biden battling Fauci and the CDC.
Whether they know it or not, this judge just gave Democrats a gift. If the left fights to reinstate the mandates it will only hurt the party in November.
The airline mask mandate was in its death throes anyway. Forced masking has disappeared from most of the country, with the notable exception of Philadelphia, which just reinstituted an indoor mask mandate. And New York City, which continues to mask toddlers.
In recent weeks, the CEOs of America’s largest airlines wrote to the Biden administration, begging the president to lift the mandate pointing to their sophisticated air filtration systems and the ability of passengers to protect themselves with medical grade masks if that’s what they want.
“It makes no sense that people are still required to wear masks on airplanes, yet are allowed to congregate in crowded restaurants, schools and at sporting events without masks,” the executives wrote.
Reports on social media indicated that some airline employees did not wait for official notification from airline brass before gleefully tossing their masks.
Within hours of the decision airlines began formal announcements that they would allow passengers on board without masks. Alaska Airlines was the first. United and Delta quickly followed suit. As of 9 p.m. Monday there were reports that Southwest Airlines and JetBlue would no longer require masks either.
Social media reported that people in airports were throwing away their masks as TSA agents were ordered not to enforce the illegal mandate at security gates.
Still, there was good news for the forever-mask crowd: Anyone who wants to wear a mask while flying is welcome to do so.
Just leave the rest of us - and especially the 2-year-olds - out of it.
