Chicago Mayor Blames Cars For Car Thefts

Just when you thought there could be no lawsuit more specious than gun grabbers suing gun manufacturers after a murderer uses a firearm in a killing, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson sues car makers for car thefts.

Last time we heard from this far-left replacement for Lori Lightfoot he was lecturing members of the press for using the word “mob” to refer to gangs of looters rampaging through Chicago’s retail stores.

Johnson preferred to call these events “large gatherings,” you know, just like rock concerts or state fairs, only with larceny.

Sigh.

Now Johnson’s headed to court. To sue Hyundai and Kia because these Korean-made cars are allegedly easier than other makes to steal.

So far this year, 19,062 cars have been stolen in Chicago. Approximately 41% were Hyundais and Kias. That number is set to break last year’s record of 21,425 thefts.

Johnson doesn’t seem overly concerned about the criminals stealing cars. Instead he wants to punish the Korean car makers because those cars are allegedly easier than others to steal.

The impact of car theft on Chicago residents can be deeply destabilizing, particularly for low- to middle- income workers who have fewer options for getting to work and taking care of their families,” Mayor Brandon Johnson said. “The failure of Kia and Hyundai to install basic anti-theft prevention technology in these models is sheer negligence, and as a result, a citywide and nationwide crime spree around automobile theft has been unfolding right before our eyes.”

The City notes that because Hyundai and Kia vehicles are “entry-level models,” the lack of engine immobilizers is disproportionately impacting low-income residents in Chicago. It adds that thieves who steal Hyundai and Kia vehicles can use them to commit other crimes like reckless driving, armed robbery, and even murder.

So hizzoner seems to believe that if Hyundai and Kia made more secure cars thieves would have no way to commit armed robbery or murder.

Geezus.

Compared to Johnson, Mayor Lightfoot was an absolute Mensa member.

For their part, the car makers claim that all models are now equipped with anti-theft devices. Models without them were made between 2011 and 2022.

Suing car manufacturers for the criminal activities of others is borderline insane. Similar suits have been filed in - wait for it - California and New York and are pending.

Is there any length these bleeding hearts will not go to to avoid holding the criminal element responsible for their crimes?

What’s next?

Will Johnson file suit against Ford if someone hits a pedestrian with his F-150? Or will he go after fork manufacturers for Chicago’s epidemic of obesity?

The possibilities are endless.
