Women’s National Soccer Team Deserved To Lose
Here’s a promise: After today I will never again write about the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team or its sourpuss leader, Megan Rapinoe.
Goodbye and good riddance to this America-hating athlete.
She and the rest of the team don’t deserve all the attention they received for a sport no one watches except once every four years.
Yet these athletes got under the skin of many Americans. Those of us who like sports and who always pull for our national teams, no matter how disinterested we are in their particular sport, found ourselves cheering this summer for Vietnam, Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden.
The Swedes sent the Americans home from New Zealand after Rapinoe missed a penalty kick by sending it waaaay over the right crossbar.
The right one. Sweet.
Final score, Sweden 5, USA 4. Bye, Bye Miss American Pie…
Rapinoe, who’s made an issue out of her loathing of the national anthem, managed to infect the entire team with her anti-American bias. Sure, a couple of them mouthed a few of the words to “The Star-Spangled Banner” - zombie-like - before play started, but most of them stood there with barely disguised disgust on their faces.
In contrast, the players from every other team wore their national team jerseys proudly, smiling or even crying with joy when the strains of their anthems rang out in the stadium.
Look, if you aren’t proud of your country, get off the team and make room for someone who is and who won’t embarrass the folks back home.
It might be worth reminding Megan Rapinoe, who is a lesbian and married, that she enjoys freedoms in America that are unthinkable in many other countries around the world and that many have given their lives to protect those liberties. In 62 countries it is illegal to be homosexual. Same-sex marriage is legal in just 33. A handful of mostly Middle Eastern countries execute homosexuals.
The U.S. is not perfect. Our leaders are far from perfect. But athletes who wear the jerseys and represent us in international competition should at the very least behave with dignity and respect our flag and our anthem. They might also want to show some respect for the fans who traveled halfway around the world to cheer them on.
The U.S. Women’s Soccer Team played uninspired soccer and looked like a bunch of brats while doing it.
Nevertheless, the panderer in the White House Tweeted out this today:
.@USWNT, you’ve made your country proud.

Congratulations on an incredible run. This team is something special and I’m looking forward to seeing how you continue to inspire Americans with your grit and determination – on and off the field. https://t.co/XWitTB3Gl4
No, Mr. President, you’re wrong.
This team DIDN’T make their country proud. And I doubt they inspired many American girls who dream of playing soccer at the highest levels.
Instead, they acted like fools and played like clowns, at one point celebrating a 0-0 tie - saved by a goalpost - as if they’d actually won.
