Men Boxing Women. What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
If you thought combat sports were the one branch of athletics that would never succumb to wokeness, you were wrong.
Last month USA Boxing - the national governing body for Olympic-style boxing that’s overseen by the United States Olympic Committee - announced that “trans women” - i.e. biological men - would be allowed to fight women in 2024.
That’s right, we’re about to award championship belts to men who punch women in the face.
We’ve come a long way, baby.
Seems like just yesterday that Congress passed Title IX and President Richard Nixon signed the measure into law. While it addressed inequalities for women in education, it’s mostly known for how the law transformed women’s sports and gave girls opportunities to compete in ways that had never been open to them before.
Title IX meant athletic scholarships would be available to females, as they had been to males for years.
As a result, the legislation kick-started girls’ sports in America, giving athletic females the opportunity to train hard and compete against each other at elite levels.
According to a recent report in The Harvard Gazette, prior to Title IX only 1 in 27 girls played sports. Today it’s 2 in 5.
In the past year or so we’ve seen 50 years of progress threatened by the presence of biological males, who claim to be “trans”, competing against and often beating girls.
Physiological differences in males and females that range from height to skeletal structure and muscle mass make competition between the sexes unfair. Simply taking hormones and lopping off body parts can’t change that.
The most famous case is that of Lia Thomas, formerly William Thomas, a University of Pennsylvania swimmer who was ranked 554th among men in the 200-yard freestyle but who became a top-ranked “woman” in the same sport.
Thomas’ female teammates at Penn were told they had no choice but to accept this newly minted “woman” as a member of their team and they were forced to share a locker room with this intact male.
Absurd and unfair.
Since then, men have invaded women’s track and field, cycling, soccer and a host of other sports. In every case, female teammates and opponents are bullied into silence with accusations of transphobia if they dare object.
Meanwhile, their dreams are stomped on by mediocre male athletes.
The leader of the opposition to this insanity is brave Riley Gaines, former University of Kentucky swimmer, who was forced to compete against Thomas and who has testified before Congress, begging lawmakers to protect girls’ sports.
When Gaines heard about the USA Boxing decision she was outraged:
USA boxing to allow men who merely say they are women to fight against women. Mark my words, it will take a woman getting killed before these misogynistic fools wake up
She’s right.
In the meantime, men will be awarded championship belts for knocking women out.
We’ve lost our way. And we’ve lost Title IX.
