Corporation For Public Broadcasting On Life Support

Corporation For Public Broadcasting On Life Support

On Friday some happy-but-not-unexpected news broke: The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is about to go kaput.

It’s on life support for two more months.

That’s because Congress defunded the body that awards public funds to National Public Radio and the Pubic Broadcasting Service. The left-wing non-profit expected to be showered with $1.1 billion in tax dollars, but the Big Beautiful Bill passed by Congress last month zeroed it out.

Unsurprisingly, PBS itself misreported the news.

No, PBS, Trump didn’t claw back the funds. Congress did.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul made a similarly misleading announcement.

Did that language come straight from the DNC?

That sound you hear is the wailing and gnashing of teeth from lefties in Congress and elsewhere predicting that PEOPLE WILL DIE if public broadcasting expires. What’s really got the far-left in a dither is that NPR, which has always insisted that public dollars were just a small percentage of its funding, is suddenly faced with the prospect of doing what we in commercial radio do: Eat what you kill.

Apparently they weren’t killing much. Especially in the ratings.

File this under things that never happened. Or under bad parenting. If your 11-year-old child is weeping over the loss of a TV show, you’re doing parenting all wrong. Tell her to go outside and play.

Why, exactly, should I be on the hook for drying her tears?

While many on the right are celebrating that their tax dollars will no longer support left-leaning content, some of us believe that government should have no role in funding any broadcasting.

Left, right or down the middle.

It’s simply not the role of government.

Driving a stake in the heart of this entity that’s been slurping up public money since 1967 was long overdue. There are plenty of commercial outlets offering far superior content. Beyond that, the FCC requires every broadcaster using public airwaves to aor emergency warnings.

Calm down, panicans. Nobody’s going to die.

The funding of public broadcasting has always been a shell game. Some might call it a legal money laundering exercise.

Whatever you call it, it’s over.

Finally.
