Biden’s Latest Foreign Policy Folly: The Pier
I was out of the country for Joe Biden’s angry-old-man State of the Union address this year, but I watched the entire speech later.
One line made me shake my head in utter disbelief:
“No U.S. boots will be on the ground,” he declared when announcing his plan for a temporary pier off the coast of Gaza, designed purely to win over the jihadis in the Democrat Party.
Here, watch him for yourself if you have the stomach.
Everyone knew the real problem wasn’t getting aid INTO Gaza. It was getting it TO the people who need it. A pier wasn’t going to fix that.
It’s nearly impossible to deliver aid to people in need because of the terrorists who run Gaza and their incessant looting.
This is nothing new. They’ve been doing this for more than a decade.
The notion that we would put upwards of 1,000 American soldiers on a floating target in the middle of a war zone to hand aid over to terrorists was - and is - insane.
Less than three months after pandering to the Democratic Hamas Fan Club and less than three weeks since it was completed, virtually no aid is getting into Gaza from the pier, the project is costing double what was anticipated and this past weekend it began to break apart in bad weather.
In an interview with Fox News, Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida said that cost is just for the first three months of the project.
“The longer it’s there the more those costs are going to skyrocket.”
"We've been briefed that two Navy destroyers are assigned to patrol the waters around the pier," Waltz said as an example. "Are those being included in their sustained fuel operating costs? The cost of their crew? That's unclear."
According to a report in The Hill, four U.S. Army vessels broke loose from their moorings in bad weather several days ago, two “crash landed” on Israeli beaches and so did part of the pier that also broke loose.
Oh, and guess what? Unless these military members are wearing flip-flops it appears we do indeed have boots on the ground in Israel, about 20 miles from the Gaza border.
This mission is a failure. We’ve seen this movie before.
It’s time to cut our losses.
Bring the troops home, sink the pier and admit this is just Biden’s latest foreign policy folly.
