Shhhh.
Hear that sound? That unearthly high-pitched noise is the sound of unhinged Democrats having communal hissy fits because the Trump administration is on a mission to cut government spending by uncovering waste, fraud and abuse.
Oh, how they loathe Elon Musk who’s been put in charge of finding it.
For some reason, Musk’s DOGE team has ignited unprecedented animus from the left. Do they really think that defending big, bloated government is a winning position?
Musk’s team has identified all manner of wasteful spending at USAID, which has a $40 billion budget and is just a small part of federal spending.
Can you imagine how much waste they’ll find as they work their way through other agencies?
On Wednesday, it came to light that some media outlets were reportedly recipients of taxpayers’ largesse.
I was told the other day to keep an eye out for companies and foundations experiencing sudden money problems. It might be a sign that they were getting federal bucks but the spigot was cut off.
When I read Tuesday that the far-left media outfit, Politico, couldn’t pay its employees, I wondered.
Nah, I thought. News outlets weren’t in on the grift.
Looks like I was wrong.
Politico and other outlets are being accused of slurping up sums of taxpayer dollars for years, including some loot from USAID.
Politico denies it took government money.
It appears that $8.2 million tax dollars were spent on 237 special “professional” subscriptions to Politico. At more than $30,000 EACH? For information everyone else can see for free?
Sorry, this looks a lot like payola.
Here’s the online definition of the underhanded practice:
“Payola is the illegal practice of paying a media outlet to promote a product or artist without disclosing that the promotion is paid. “
Ahem.
Essentially this is protection money.
By pouring money into media outlets over the years, the government could expect loyalty. Makes perfect sense when you consider the incredible bias of legacy media.
These left-wing outlets were nothing if not loyal.
If you ever wondered, during covid, why journalists almost never questioned lockdowns, the efficacy of vaccines, school closures or the value of wearing masks - and were antagonistic to anyone who did - you may now have your answer.
They were clandestinely working as government-sponsored companies. But unlike employees at NPR or PBS, they didn’t disclose that to the public.
For some reason, Democrats don’t want us to know about attempts to buy the media or any of the other outrageous expenditures of unelected bureaucrats.
For instance, they don’t want us to know about the $2 million of our tax money went for sex-change operations and LGBT activism in Guatemala, the $7.9 million to a project that would teach Sri Lankan journalists to avoid “binary-gendered language.”, $1.2 million that went to an Armenian LGBT group, $3.9 million for LGBT causes in the Western Balkans, $5.5 million for LGBT in Uganda, $6 million to advance LGBT in “priority countries around the world” and $40 million for aids drugs for trans prostitutes in South Africa.
Then there’s this: $8 million to UNC Chapel Hill to study the effect of flavored cigarettes on bisexuals and lesbians.
I could go on.
Americans are furious about the massive misuse of tax dollars in Washington. Meanwhile Democrats are spitting mad at the guy who discovered it.
Vilifying Elon Musk and Donald Trump for flagging waste may not be the winning issue Democrats believe it is.
Americans voted to drain the swamp last November. Someone ought to tell Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Chris Coons, Maxine Waters and Mark Warner that by shaking their fists at the new administration and defending government waste these shrill politicians have simply outed themselves as Washington swamp creatures.
Like it or not, the grift is coming to an end. Cry more, lefties.
